We moved for some space…

We found it and then some.

There is a reason people move to Alton and never want to leave. The sense of community, the historic charm, the transport links; it offers a lifestyle that goes far beyond a postcode.

Why we moved

  • The Commute: working in London, the commute is easy. With 2 direct trains an hour and a journey time of 75 minutes, you get the best of both worlds: city career, country air.

  • Property Prices: our 2 bed terraced cottage in Woking became a 4 bed detached family home in Alton. With a baby and a toddler, having defined spaces in the house and an extra bathroom were game changers!

  • Space: giving a toddler the room to run is priceless. A playroom and child friendly space for toys reduced our need to ‘helicopter’ and outdoor parks and woodlands on the doorstep make a free day out a piece of cake.

Why we stayed

  • The School Catchment: Education is a huge draw. All local schools are rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. Andrews’ Endowed and The Butts are both highly rated, making this a prime spot for growing families. Most local schools offer single form entry which fosters a community feel and givens all children the attention they deserve.

  • Weekend Life: Saturday mornings usually start at the leisure centre for swimming lessons followed by a walk through the Flood Meadows. For Sunday lunch, there is no shortage of local pubs; The French Horn on The Butts Green and The White Hart in Holybourne are absolute staples.
